ROOM

Artist: Paul Heaston.

This piece was created by artist Paul Heaston and is visual observation of St Mark’s Coffee House in Denver. He has a distinctive sketchy style which allows him to manipulate his sketchbook and make that a room within itself due to the amount of detail and object he can compress on to a single page. Each piece is sketched with perfect perspective revealing the scene from which the artist is viewing it. By placing himself in the foreground of the drawing we are not only seeing what Heaston is seeing at the time, but we are also living within that moment where he is position in that room. His clever ability to incorporate himself 2into the drawing shows his incredible talents and allows the viewing audiences to see places from his prospective. I personal find this artist pieces interesting as you can see that no detail or object is left out Heaston has reconstructed ever last detail of the room that he is observing in ink giving it a unique sketchy style allowing every object to stand out. I also like the fact that when u look at the piece you yourself feel as though you are the one who is drawing the room as your not looking at it your looking into it.

This is another room observational drawing done by Paul Heaston and this one is a visual representation of a room inside a Coffee Shop in Rockford. Once again, the artist has presented himself in the forge ground to indicate to use his position in the room and to allow us in sight to view the room from his eyes and perspective. However, this piece is not as interesting as the previous one, its still amazing just less interesting. I believe this is because there is not much going on in the space drawn and the fact that its only a segment of a room that has been drawn rather than the whole room. Everything in which is drawn within the piece is done to great accuracy to reproduce that realistic effect. If the artist had decided to draw the whole room rather than just a segment of it then it would of added a great depth of charisma to the work and put it on the same level of quality and talent as many more of Heaston work.

Overall, I am happy with the final out come of these pieces, they turned out better than I hoped considering this was my first time drawing a room never mind drawing a room from observation. Also due to the fact that I constantly struggled with the angles I was drawing from, as can be seen within the first image of the kitchen, the second image of the bedroom didn't turn out half as bad, I learnt a lot from this project. Its all about positions, space and shapes along with practice and patience, of which I am constantly working on.
